On the occasion of the first 150 years of the Viareggio Carnival, the Carnival Foundation made available the recordings kept in its archives. We selected and edited them, with the music of some instrumental pieces by Extraliscio, unintentionally carnivalesque.
The result is a parade of carnivals, from 1925 to the present day, between black&white and colour, between invented masks and masks of historical personalities. One can feel, in the lightness of Carnival and papier-mache (the main material of the Viareggio festival), the pace of history, the breath of the epochs, each with its splendours and its fears. And within the mockery, irony and satire we witness a roundup of the splendours and miseries of humanity.
