The recording of a vocal improvisation by Battiato for the Bluevertigo's song Sovrappensiero, at the Mountain Studio of Montreux, is carefully "documented" by "eavesdropping" and spying on technicians and musicians, while they're trying infinitesimal variations again and again, while filming each others in narcissistic poses or indulging in Zen meditations of tweeters and woofers. Images spy on secretly, catch and hunt gestures furtively, being always a bit late or in advance according to the time expected. Just the opposite of the fetishist reportage of the rockstar, where even triviality is surrounded by a distinctive aura.
Filmed during the August of 1999 at the Mountain Studios of Montreux (where the Bluevertigo were mixing Zero), in serra breaks away from the traditional standards of music videoclip, being more like a claustrophobic backstage where music plays the role of a Proustian madeleine, thus bringing to light faces, gestures and glances caught by a cryptic camera.
in serra exploits the technical device of a mismatch between sound (the final version of Bluevertigo's Sovrappensiero) and the shots of the different stages during the mixing of the track itself. As a result, during the editing, moments in-synch and out of synch follow one after another.
The central aim is that of achieving a cohesion by cutting off (removing), in order to provide the rough plan with a coherent sound pattern (intro and refrain included).
