EIMUNTAS NEKROSIUS' OTHELLO
2001 / 9’
- by Elisabetta Sgarbi e Paolo Mosca
Act III of the Shakespearean trilogy by the Lituan film-director Eimuntas Nekrosius. In the middle of the stage, an altimeter gauges the different depths of the emotional tide: Othello, Desdemona and Iago come back and forth, chase one another and, when tragedy breaks out, Desdemona climbs up and down the chairs facing a moment of true despair.
Four elements: ice, air, water and fire. And, most of all, shadows.
"On stage, or else in my way of staging, there's risk of injury. That's why on stage healthy and vigorous bodies are required: the energy and beauty of the body, which means health, a sound way of living. I do wish to nourish my brain with music, classical music or rock, literature, history, with numberless interests, desires and longings; here is my idea about being healthy" - the director states.
